What is CJF?

The Charleston Jewish Federation exists to build, secure, and sustain Jewish Life and community involvement in the Greater Charleston Area. Through an extensive network of support, the Federation provides charitable services to Jewish people in all walks of life, ensures safety and protection in the community, and strives to unite the congregations, organizations, and Jewish people in the area to cultivate an atmosphere of togetherness.

Alongside its mission to be an asset to all members of the Jewish community, CJF takes action to intertwine itself in a wider world of activism. In the spirit of Tikkun Olam—the Jewish mission to serve one’s community—the Federation’s various members and committees collaborate with external groups so that the Jewish people of Charleston can march alongside their neighbors on the path to building an inclusive, connected, and diverse society.

Ultimately, CJF is planting the seeds of the future by taking the necessary steps to engender change for the betterment of society—while simultaneously anchoring a stable network of connection and philanthropy in order to support the members of the Charleston Jewish community and their neighbors. The Federation is committed to its role as an advocate for the preservation of Jewish Life and for the evolution of Jewish involvement in Charleston— something it carries to fruition every day by celebrating the intersection of Charlestonian culture and the Jewish faith.
