Mike & Shirley Mills

Mike and Shirley's gift will benefit Charleston Jewish Federation, Jewish Family Services of Greater Charleston, Synagogue Emanu-el and the Yaschik/Arnold Jewish Studies Program at the College of Charleston.

Michael was born in Cleveland, and met Shirley at his high school prom. She was born in Milan, Italy but moved to Cleveland when she was 11 ½ years old after living 10 years in Israel. Her father and mother were both Holocaust survivors, and met in a camp in Italy after the war. Michael worked at Procter and Gamble for 40 years and they traveled all over. Michael and Shirley have two children, both of whom are involved in Jewish causes and philanthropy.

We do what we can for our community and its continuity. We contribute where we have the passion and skills.

For Michael, that has meant getting involved with the boards and administration of several Jewish organizations in Cincinnati and Charleston. For Shirley, that has meant teaching Jewish studies and Hebrew, becoming a Lion of Judah, and getting involved in Holocaust remembrance.

We feel it is our purpose in life to make it a better place for our kids, and for the next generation.
